4 Cops Critical After Truck Hits PCR Van In Odisha’s Boudh

Boudh: At least four policemen sustained critical injuries after a patrolling van was hit by a truck at Manmunda in the Boudh district on Thursday morning.

A woman ASI, who sustained grievous injuries, was shifted to a medical facility in Cuttack, while others are being treated in a local hospital.

According to reports, a police patrolling team was returning from an accident spot at Baunshuni late Wednesday night when a speeding truck hit their van near the Manmunda petrol pump on National Highway 57. All the police personnel in the vehicle were injured in the mishap as their vehicle overturned due to the impact of the collision.

Schools In Odisha, Barring 7 Districts, Reopen After Summer Holidays

Bhubaneswar: With expected abatement of heatwave conditions, schools across Odisha, barring seven districts, reopened on Wednesday after the summer holidays.

The administrations of western Odisha districts have deferred the school reopening dates and tweaked class schedule due to the continuing scorching heat.

Schools in Jharsuguda, Balangir and Sambalpur will reopen on June 22 and they will have morning classes till June 24.

In Sundargarh, Sonepur, Bargarh and Nuapada, the classes will resume on June 23. Classes will be conducted from 6.30 am up to 10 am during these two days and at usual timings from June 26.

Notably, the state government had asked collectors of these seven districts to either switch to morning classes or extend holidays in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions.

Amid the IMD prediction of likely onset of southwest monsoon over Odisha by June 22, Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur were the hottest in the state at 42.1 degee Celsius on Tuesday while two other western Odisha towns – Jharsuguda and Titlagarh – recorded 42 degree. Hirakud registered 41.9 degree Celsius, Sonepur 41.8, Balangir 41.2 and Sundargarh 41 degree.

This year, due to severe heatwave conditions, the government had announced early summer vacation for schools in the state.
